Obama Administration’s Denial of Permit Is Bad News for Manufacturing Sector

Austin, TX – The following statement on President Barack Obama’s denial of the Keystone XL permit may be attributed to Fred Shannon, chairman of the Texas Association of Manufacturers:

“President Obama’s move to deny the Keystone XL permit is an unfortunate action with far ranging consequences. For working families, the completion of the Keystone XL pipeline would enhance our nation’s energy security, bring the U.S. safe energy from a reliable trading partner, and create jobs across the state and the nation in manufacturing, energy and the service sectors.

Affordable, reliable energy is a top priority for Texas manufacturers and a major contributor to future job growth. Manufacturing jobs are among the state’s best paying jobs and state and federal leaders should be looking to advance policy that creates jobs and encourages private investment in energy and infrastructure.

“We hope that the project can be quickly saved, and we’re heartened to learn that TransCanada intends to press ahead with another application for a permit.  Texas manufacturers hope this next time, the decision is one that sides with our country’s job creators.

“At the upcoming 2012 Manufacturers Summit on February 14 – 15, we’ll turn a critical eye to the energy needs for the manufacturing sector, and the Keystone XL project will be an integral part of our policy discussions.”
